My role: UX Designer

Methods & Skills:

  • Innovative design experimentation and creative thinking

  • Idea generation

  • Competitor research and analysis

  • Userflows

  • Sitemaps

  • Wireframes

  • Interactive Prototypes

  • Usability testing

Tools:

  • Miro

  • Figma

  • Adobe Photoshop

  • Adobe Illustrator

  • Adobe After Effects

Overview

In response to the brief I created an interactive DJ tutor tool experience designed in Figma, with audio and video clip triggers.

I completed this brief during my last semester of my Bachelor of Science in User Experience Design.

Objectives

  • Explore experimental ideas and take risks

  • To apply the psychological laws and principles of design with an innovative approach, to create an engaging microsite.

Methodologies 01.
The Research

Exploration of Design psychology competitor websites:

  • Competitor research

  • Understand the pain points of the websites and how effective user experience has been implemented.

  • User interaction research and analysis.

  • Visual UI inspiration

  • The analysis of UI on application to see how competitors use interactions to engage their users.

Methodologies 02.
Idea Development

I began categorising the laws and principles of UX and continued to contemplate how I can implement them.

The objective

To apply the psychological laws and principles of design with an innovative approach, to create an engaging microsite.

The challenge

Generating unconventional ways of visually communicating the laws and principles of design. With engaging interactions to provide sufficient user experience.

Methodologies 03.
Pushing Creative Thinking

  • Brainstorming other ways to produce unique and captivating user experience.

  • Perhaps experimenting with other human senses could enhance engagement...

The challenge

How can sound be used to represent psychology design laws and principles?

The Idea

I had the idea of creating an innovative easy DJ application prototype for user engagement, whilst applying the principles and laws, to ensure a seamless experience. Further research was done on interaction design, specifically relevant to music and gamification.

Methodologies 04.
From Lo-Fidelity

The process

  • Signifier and wireframe sketches.

  • Userflows

  • Lo-fidelity wireframes in Figma.

  • Adobe Photoshop experimentation of DJ graphics.

The challenge

  • Adding sound was a challenge...

  • However by using the recent video feature in Figma it allowed me to add moving graphics accompanied with sound effects,(made in Adobe After Effects.)

Methodologies 05.
To Hi-Fidelity

Deliver Solutions

  • Prototyping onboarding sequence using Don Norman 7 design principles- Conceptual models.

  • Use of After Effects to make buttons glow and play audio. Option of 3 buttons: Hick’s law of simplicity.

  • Having the main features at bottom of the screen, (closer to the user) for improved usability, following Fitt’s law.

The challenge

  • Working within Figmas limitations; designing applications with so many sensory features proved quite difficult. I had to use a variety of programmes for the sound and animation to work successfully.

Methodologies 06.
Usability Testing

User feedback to refine my prototype.
